Bulat Utemuratov Foundation Supports Gasification Project in Almaty

The project will be implemented jointly with the Almaty City Akimat to support the transition of private homes to natural gas. The first step was the signing of a memorandum outlining the key areas of cooperation between the two parties.

As part of a coordinated approach to connecting private homes to the gas network, the Akimat conducts site assessments and advises residents on the connection process. Qualified contractors then carry out the necessary construction and installation work. Residents receive comprehensive support throughout the transition to gas heating, including assistance with financial and administrative matters, the required documentation and other practical aspects of the process.

“Targeted efforts to connect private homes to the gas network are continuing across Almaty. The reasons why a particular household has not yet been connected can vary, so it is important not only to carry out the technical work, but also to support residents throughout the entire process – from initial consultations to the final connection. Support from socially responsible businesses helps expand these efforts and address specific needs more quickly,” said Almaty Mayor Darkhan Satybaldy.

Switching private homes from coal to natural gas is also important for improving air quality in Almaty. During the heating season, the use of solid fuels in the private sector remains a source of air pollution.

“For us, it is important to support a project that contributes to the development of urban infrastructure and creates more comfortable living conditions for the people of Almaty. Gasification will enable families whose homes are not yet connected to the gas network to switch to a modern heating solution. We are pleased to contribute to this important city initiative,” said Ainur Karbozova, Director General of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation.

This is not the Foundation’s first project in Almaty. The Foundation has supported the reconstruction of the Almaty Botanical Garden, as well as the modernization of the ventilation and air-conditioning systems at the National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Almaty is also home to one of the first Asyl Miras Autism Centres established by the Foundation as part of its “Autism. One World for All” programme. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation supported the healthcare system, including by providing mobile laboratories for PCR testing.

Over the past 12 years, the Foundation has implemented social projects across Kazakhstan, including the construction of schools in Esik and Kosshy, a new terminal at Kyzylorda Airport, a community centre in Kosshy, and the Shabyt Children’s and Youth Creative Centre in Zhezkazgan. The Foundation has also supported initiatives in education, healthcare, inclusion, culture, environmental protection and assistance to people affected by natural disasters.

Since 2014, the Foundation has invested more than USD 250 million in social projects.
